My name is Andrea. I’m a former New Orleanian now living in Flat Rock, North Carolina. My beau (Will) and I moved here a few years ago, and while we miss New Orleans and all it offers, we are thrilled to be in western North Carolina.

It’s been quite the move and we’ve learned a lot. From finding a house to working on our new(ish) relationship (we moved here to live together within a year of meeting, and I hasten to add that I’ve not shared a home with someone in 25+ years), it’s been an exciting time.

Fortunately, and knock on wood, things are going well. We found a great house in a fantastic neighborhood (okay, the house will be great if we ever finish remodeling it). We’ve managed to not only find work (I’m a Technical Writer) but also start a new career (Will is a former boat captain — too late we realized there wasn’t a huge demand for that in the mountains, so he’s now working as a realtor). We’ve met some wonderful people along the way, and we’ve even adopted another dog (more on that later).

But stop right there — I can assure you it has not been rainbows and lollipops the whole way. I mean, it can’t be. That’s not how life works.

I can promise you that our life is not a Christmas letter and I see no reason in pretending it is. So what’s the point of this site? Well, my plan is to share some of our experiences, provide some hints/resources that might help you should you opt to move here, give you a few recipes (turns out, Will is an amazing cook), and — I hope — give you a giggle or two.

So join me (and sometimes Will and the pups) as we explore and find out what it’s like living the Flat Rock life!

PS. If you are a Flat Earther and you’ve stopped by under the misapprehension that this blog is dedicated to your ilk, you’ve got the wrong blog. The closest I come to buying into the flat earth line of thought is Discworld. Which reminds me, we miss you terribly, Mr. Pratchett.
